Lea Elm
I’m a Danish photographer and writer living by the coast in South East England with my partner Daniel.
My photographic work is mostly documentary in nature and informed by the places I have lived in or visited. It is often fragmentary and centred on singular, fleeting moments, while exploring ideas about transience, memory and belonging.
I use a mix of 35mm, instant and digital cameras, as well as hybrid and alternative processes, too.
I usually work on several projects simultaneously and have recently been focusing on prints, artist books, zines and handbound one-off photo books.
Outside of photography I am also a writer and poet, having won 2nd place for my poem Paper Houses at The Disabled Poets Prize 2023. In my work the two practices often inform each other and on more than one occasion my photography has been accompanied by my writing, as can be seen in some of the photographic work I’ve had published.
